A new study finds that the average wedding cost is $28,000

LOS ANGELES, CA, US, Sep 29, 2022 / EINPresswire.com/ – After a major downturn due to Covid-19, the wedding industry appears to be making a comeback, with the average cost of a wedding last year rising to a pre-pandemic level of around $28,000 ; However, it may turn out that weddings this year and those to come are just “average”.

That’s according to Jasmine Rae de Lung, award-winning cake artist voted Best Wedding Cake Designer, Los Angeles 2022. “I don’t see enough evidence that weddings are coming back the way they were before,” says de Long, who opened Jasmine Rae Cakes in St. Francisco in 2006, “It’s too early to tell how the industry will recover.”

The New York Times and many of the leading wedding industry publications reported on a pair of national studies that found that the average cost of a wedding has recovered from a low of $19,000 during the height of the pandemic. Studies have been presented as evidence that “weddings are indeed back”.

That may not be the whole picture, says DeLong, who notes that many couples postponed weddings, and those who tied the knot had small relationships with fewer guests.

“Nearly half of all weddings held in 2021 were carryovers from 2020,” she says, predicting that average costs aren’t an exact factor in and of themselves. “I think there is a deep dynamic here between marriage and weddings as an industry. Couples I have met have told me that they are more discerning about what items to bring to their wedding in a new way that wasn’t ubiquitous before 2020.”

This could mean a return to the bridal industry without some of the traditional roles that were characteristic of the past. “Couples who get married care themselves more about the meaning of weddings than I’ve seen in my seventeen years as a cake maker. They spend disproportionately more money on the things they care about, while eliminating traditions and other elements altogether. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a steady decline in the number of guests as Couples choose to spend their money on a high-quality experience for their closest family and community.”

She further predicts that the industry looks, well, “unpredictable for a few more years.” Many sellers have been out of business during the Covid that “couples will face a dearth of experienced options” and prices are likely “distorted, with some charging more to make up for losses while others charging less out of desperation.”

The average cost of a wedding varies widely across the United States, from $16,000 in Oklahoma and $17,500 in Utah to $47,000 in New Jersey. California was among the top third, at $33,000.

Bio: Jasmine Rae de Lung has worked in Cake Art Services for over 15 years and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Cognitive Science and a Master’s degree in Psychology. Yasmine’s work bridges the gap between art and psychology. She says, “I am often asked whether and how my master’s degree contributes to my work in the cake industry. I find it very relevant to my work and my life, in part because it is now part of my identity, a trained tool of sensitivity, through the lens of social justice. This affects the creative process whether in making cakes or work with real people.” Besides cake art, Jasmine also has a formal art background and a work in mural painting. Through her endowments, Jasmine integrates her different skill sets into a strategic business process. Jasmine reveals, “The cornerstone of my work is the natural process – drawing on experienced skills to prepare my materials and enjoying their surprise; to succumb to the twisting of the rice paper petals as they dry, and to respond constantly to the cake as it forms. I keep you in mind, and re-display the parts that overlap with you, your vision, and your celebration so that we have a personal and authentic outcome.” Jasmine found freedom when she began to defy tradition and mores. This freedom helped shape her identity as an artist. Yasmin adapts the needs of each client to the vision that the client gives her.
